Youth Consultative Forum and Biali Field Visit

Engaging young people in dialogue is a cornerstone of building lasting peace and fostering inclusive solutions to complex challenges. In mid-2024, Future Stars Center organized two significant initiatives in Uganda to connect Sudanese youth refugees and explore pathways toward peace and resilience.

The first event, a Youth Consultative Forum, was held in Kampala on 21 July 2024. This gathering brought together young Sudanese refugees from diverse backgrounds, representing all 18 states of Sudan. The forum provided a safe space for participants to share their experiences, voice their concerns, and propose ideas for strengthening peacebuilding efforts in Sudan while addressing the realities of displacement in Uganda.

Following the forum, a field visit to Biali Refugee Camp took place on 15 August 2024. The visit aimed to engage directly with the refugee community, learn about their day-to-day challenges, and discuss opportunities for collective action. A total of 54 participants took part in the combined activities, reflecting a broad spectrum of perspectives and lived experiences.

Key topics discussed included:

  • The role of youth in shaping peace processes in Sudan.

  • The unique challenges faced by refugees in both urban and camp settings.

  • Opportunities for skills development, economic empowerment, and community leadership among displaced youth.

The initiatives not only facilitated meaningful dialogue but also strengthened networks among Sudanese refugee youth in Uganda. These connections are essential for mobilizing collaborative projects, advocating for refugee rights, and fostering a shared vision of a peaceful future for Sudan.

At Future Stars Center, we are committed to creating spaces where young voices are heard, valued, and empowered to drive change—both in their host communities and in their homeland.
