Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leaders. It is a good slogan. It is also incomplete.
Across Sudan, young people are not waiting for tomorrow. They are running communal kitchens, trucking water into displacement camps, delivering cholera awareness campaigns, and coordinating emergency response rooms in communities where humanitarian needs are high. They are leading now.
The United Nations theme for International Youth Day 2026 — Different Contexts, Common Aspirations — recognizes that young people’s circumstances differ enormously while their aspirations barely differ at all: dignity, opportunity, meaningful participation, decent work, quality education, a sustainable future.
Future Stars Center is a youth-led organization. That is not a descriptive detail. It is the operating premise. Rather than implementing activities directly, FSC channels funding to community initiatives — many of them youth-led — and provides the grants, oversight and reporting support that let local groups do the work themselves.
Across its portfolio, that model has meant more than 65 community initiatives supported, alongside capacity building, sustainable development and peace-building work in Sudan and Uganda. Among our partners are school gathering committees and community groups organizing services from within the communities they belong to.
What young people lack is not capability. It is resourcing and recognition.
The gap the theme identifies is real. Youth in the hardest-hit contexts face compounded barriers — limited economic opportunity, disrupted education, restricted access to digital tools — while carrying a significant share of the response. Closing that gap is a shared responsibility, and one the humanitarian system is increasingly committed to through the localization agenda.
On International Youth Day, FSC recognizes every young volunteer, coordinator and community organizer serving their communities.
Today’s youth are not only tomorrow’s leaders. They are today’s.
