Every year on 16 October, the world marks World Food Day, commemorating the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 1945. The day is a reminder that access to adequate, safe and nutritious food is a fundamental human right, and that ending hunger requires collective action.
A Crisis That Demands Sustained Attention
In Sudan, prolonged conflict has led to widespread displacement, disrupted livelihoods and constrained humanitarian access. For millions of people, including women, youth and internally displaced persons, securing daily food remains a significant challenge. Addressing this reality requires responses that are timely, coordinated and rooted in local communities.
FSCβs Contribution in North Darfur
Future Stars Centre (FSC) works alongside local partners, community structures and humanitarian actors to support conflict-affected populations in North Darfur. Our approach is built on three interlinked priorities:
1. Life-saving assistance and basic needs. We support displaced and vulnerable households with essential assistance, including access to food, water and shelter, in line with humanitarian principles.
2. Resilient livelihoods. We strengthen community-based agricultural and income-generating activities that help families reduce dependency on aid and rebuild self-reliance.
3. Local leadership and inclusion. We support initiatives led by youth and women, ensuring that protection, dignity and meaningful participation remain central to our programming.
Beyond Emergency Relief
Sustainable food security cannot be achieved through humanitarian assistance alone. It requires an integrated approach that links emergency response, livelihoods support, protection and peacebuilding. Communities that are safe, empowered and economically resilient are better positioned to withstand shocks and recover.
Our Commitment
On this World Food Day, FSC reaffirms its commitment to working with communities, partners and donors toward a self-reliant and peaceful society where every person enjoys full rights and dignity. We call on all stakeholders to sustain support for food security and to prioritise the protection of civilians and the safe delivery of humanitarian assistance.
